Aston Martin DBX S Wins Top Gear “Super SUV of the Year” Award
Aston Martin’s performance-focused flagship SUV, the DBX S, has been awarded “Super SUV of the Year” by BBC Top Gear, one of the most respected and influential voices in the global automotive world.
In its evaluation, the Top Gear editorial team described the DBX S as “almost an archetype,” highlighting how subtle yet highly effective refinements elevate it beyond conventional performance SUVs. The editors praised the car for combining a feral, characterful and distinctly British personality with remarkable precision, exceptional speed and genuine day-to-day usability—qualities that define a true Super SUV in real-world conditions.
Positioned as the new flagship of the DBX range, the DBX S represents the most focused interpretation of Aston Martin’s SUV philosophy to date. At its heart lies an enhanced version of the brand’s acclaimed 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, benefiting from turbocharger technology transferred directly from the upcoming Valhalla supercar. With 727 PS of power and 900 Nm of torque, the DBX S accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 310 km/h, delivering breathtaking performance without compromising control or refinement.
Crucially, Aston Martin’s engineering approach goes beyond headline figures. Intelligent lightweighting measures play a key role in shaping the DBX S’s dynamic character. An optional carbon fibre roof, the largest single carbon component ever fitted to an Aston Martin, removes mass from the highest point of the vehicle, lowering the centre of gravity and enhancing agility. The availability of 23-inch magnesium wheels, a first in the SUV segment, further reduces unsprung weight, sharpening steering response, ride quality and overall driver confidence.
Power is distributed through a sophisticated nine-speed wet-clutch transmission and an advanced all-wheel-drive system capable of sending up to 100 per cent of torque to the rear wheels when conditions demand. This setup preserves the rear-biased, driver-focused character synonymous with Aston Martin, even within an ultra-luxury SUV format.
The DBX S also benefits from a comprehensive suite of chassis technologies, including 48-volt electronic active roll control, recalibrated air suspension and massive carbon-ceramic brakes. Together, these systems allow the vehicle to maintain exceptional body control—rolling by no more than 1.5 degrees even at the limit—while delivering stability, precision and reassurance at high speeds.
Visually, the DBX S asserts its performance credentials through a more aggressive design language. A black vaned grille, vertically stacked quad exhausts and a reprofiled rear diffuser give the car a distinctive and unmistakable identity. Inside, the cabin features a bespoke ‘S’ theme with Alcantara and semi-aniline leather options, herringbone quilting inspired by speed and motion, and Aston Martin’s latest in-house developed infotainment system.
The Top Gear “Super SUV of the Year” award is a powerful endorsement of the DBX S’s ability to transcend traditional SUV boundaries. More than just a showcase of power, the DBX S delivers a rare balance of performance, precision and everyday practicality—setting a new benchmark in the ultra-luxury Super SUV segment and reinforcing Aston Martin’s reputation for creating cars that are as rewarding to drive as they are desirable to own.
